Flood water submerges 3,214 hectares of Aman paddy field in Naogaon

NAOGAON, Sept 29: Around 3,214 hectares of Aman paddy field have been submerged as the third phase of flood hit the district this year.
Sources at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said of the total 3,214 hectares of inundated land, 168 hectares are in Sadar, 690 hectares in Raninagar, 1,055 hectares in Atrai, 100 hectares in Badalgachhi, 50 hectares in Manda, 100 hectares in Patnitala, 139 hectares in Dhamoirhat, 70 hectares in Sapahar, 52 hectares in Porsha, 775 hectares in Manda and 15 hectares in Niamatpur upazilas.
Water from the Atrai and Chhoto Jamuna rivers entered the crop field in July and August through the damaged embankments, the sources added.
Mansur Ali of Dashpara village of Manda upazila said his Aus paddy on 82 decimals of land had been damaged by floodwater in July last.
Arifuzzaman Khan, executive engineer of Naogaon Water Development Board, said the Atrai river at Shimultali point of Dhamoirhat upazila was flowing 95cm above the danger level on Sunday.
