Four Bangladeshis return from India after serving jail

BENAPOLE, Nov 09: Four Bangladeshis have returned home from India through Benapole International Check-post on Monday morning after serving five months' jail in the neighbouring country.

The Petrapole Immigration Police of India handed them over to the Benapole Check-post Immigration Police after completing the legal process.

The four were detained by the Kolkata police for staying in India even after their visas expired.

The returnees are Liton Mia, 32, son of Motahar Ali of Darjganj area of Nilphamari district; Abdul Wahab, 26, son of Abdul Wadud; Imdadul Haque, 35, son of Mokhlesur Rahman and Saidur Rahman, 22, son of Mokhlech Mia of Taipukuria in Panchagarh.

Returnee Imdadul Haque said they had gone to India in the first week of March this year.

At that time, they were stuck as the communication system was closed due to coronavirus outbreak.

As a result, they could not inform the local police in next three months.

Kolkata police arrested them and sent to jail on charge of entering India violating the rules.

After five months of imprisonment, they have been sent back today.

Benapole Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahsan Habib said the returnee Bangladeshis were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station upon completion of the legal procedures.
