NARSINGDI, July 16 (bdnews24.com): Bathing in a canal turned fatal for four children at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi district, where they drowned together.
The incident occurred near Bordkanda of Chanderkandi Union at 11am on Thursday, said Md Mojibur Rahman of Raipura Police Station.
The deceased were identified with single names -- Tabia, 13, Ayesha, 9, Jannat, 8, and Sumaiya, all from Borokanda village.
Police said they were students of Gausia Nure Madina Mohila Madrasa.
Local residents said six students entered a nearby canal to bathe during a break from classes.
Two managed to climb ashore and alerted nearby people, who
recovered the other four from the water.
They were all found dead.
Three of the children were taken to Raipura Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.
At the hospital, Shamim Mia was overcome with grief after losing his only daughter, Tabia.
Speaking through tears, he said, "I had left
home in the morning to catch the Titas train for work and reached Raipura Bazar when I got a call from home saying my daughter had drowned.
"I rushed to the hospital immediately."
