DINAJPUR, Nov 22 (bdnews24.com): At least four people have been killed when a bus collided with a three-wheeled passenger vehicle, locally known as an easy bike, in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila.
The crash occurred at around 2pm in Nashipur, outside the Wheat and Maize Research Institute on the Dinajpur-Dashmile Highway, said Mohammad Nuruzzaman, chief of Dinajpur Kotwali Police.
The deceased were identified as Marjina Khatun, 55, and Sajia Begum, 15. Police said the other two victims, including a child, had yet to be identified. All of the dead belonged to the same family.
The wounded three-wheeler driver Rubel, 25, and Mokbul, 70 -- both identified by a single name -- were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
Rezaul Islam, sub-inspector of Dashmile Highway Police Station, said the passengers had hired the three-wheeler from Dinajpur town to visit the Kantaji Rasa Mela at Kantanagar in Kaharol Upazila. On the way, their vehicle collided with a passenger bus bound for Dinajpur.
Three people died on the spot. Rescuers took the injured to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where physicians declared two more passengers dead, the officer said.
He added that immediately after the crash, the bus driver and his assistant abandoned the vehicle on the roadside and fled.
