Four killed in Syedpur road accident

RANGPUR, May 27 (BSS): Four persons were killed and five others injured in a fatal road crash at Chiklee Bazar point on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway under Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari district last night, police sources said.

The accident occurred when a Syedpur bound pick up van with passengers aboard from Rangpur and a Rangpur bound stone-laden truck from Panchagarh collided head-on at the point under Kamarpukur union in the upazila at around 10pm.

Three passengers of the pick up van, including its driver, were killed on the spot while another injured person succumbed to his injuries later at nearby Syedpur 100-bed Hospital.

Police forces from Syedpur Thana and Ekorchali Highway Thana immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the injured persons and dead bodies with the help of the local people.

The injured persons were sent to Syedpur 100-bed Hospital and later, two of them were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital(RMCH). The rest injured persons were released after providing primary aids.

The deceased persons are pick up driver Sagar Sarker, 28, of Munshipara area, Shahidul Islam, 30, of Hatikhana area and Kamal Hossain, 27, of Koya Golahat area in Syedpur town of Nilphamari and Wazed Ali, 24, of village Rampura under Parbotipur upazila in nearby Dinajpur.

"The ill-fated vehicles have been salvaged today, pick up van was totally damaged and the truck has been taken to Ekorchali Highway Thana," Sub-inspector of Ekorchali Highway Thana Gonesh Chandra Mandal told BSS at 12:20 this noon.
