Affected farmer Ali Akbar and a few others said, ''The erosion suddenly started on August 3. Erosion is still going on as the water level of the river is rising sharply following the onrush of flood waters from upper streams during the past few days.''
On getting information, the Meghna-Dhonagoda Irrigation Project and Flood Control Dam's Executive Engineer Md Joyonto Pal said engineers have been sent to the spot and after assessment, it was found that over 150 feet area with dwelling houses has been devoured. He said steps will be taken soon to stop further erosion by the river.
