Full-swing Boro procurement going on in Magura

MAGURA, May 23: A boro procurement drive is going on in full swing in the district, giving a boon to Magura farmers.

Farmers are enjoying the drive in the district. On the other hand, a reasonable rate is expediting the drive in the district.

Official sources informed that they started the boro procurement drive from May 9 with a target of 3542 metric tonnes paddy and 5235 metric tonnes rice.The procurement rate is Tk 32 for per kg paddy while Tk 45 for per kg rice.

The procurement is 942mt paddy while 1506 metric tonnes rice. A total of 92 millers have made agreement with them to supply rice under the procurement drive.

Hapizer Rahman, a farmer of Vina area under Magura Sadar Upazila, said, "We are getting Tk 1280 for per maund paddy as against Tk 1100 in the local market." Moreover, the boro procurement drive has caused a positive impact on boro price in the local market. With the start of the procurement drive, the boro price has jumped in local market, bringing benefit to farmers.

Sarwar Hossen, a miller of Saziara area under Magura Sadar Upazila, said, "We're getting Tk 45 for per kg rice under the procurement drive."

"This rate is satisfactory. Consequently, we are purchasing paddy at Tk 33 to 34 per kg from growers as against Tk 27 to Tk 28 in local market."

When contacted, district food controller Monotosh Kumar Mozumder said the boro procurement drive is going on in full swing in the district.

Due to a reasonable procurement rate, millers as well as farmers are showing interest here, he said, adding: "We are optimistic about achieving the procurement target before the scheduled time."
