Garlic cultivation expanding in Nilphamari district

NILPHAMARI, Dec 18: Commercial garlic cultivation is expanding in the district.

Farmers' sources said garlic farming is profitable for the easy and low-cost procedure. Per bigha production of the spicy crop is higher. It is possible to get up to 30 maunds of output from a bigha (30 decimals) of land.

Besides, current market price of the item is satisfactory, sources added.

DAE sources said 894 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation of garlic with the production target of 5161 tonnes.

Abu Alam, a farmer of Itakhola union under Sadar upizala, said he is cultivating garlic on two bighas of land this season and is expecting 60 maunds of production.
