GAZIPUR, May 28 (BSS): A man was killed and five others were injured being hit by a covered van on the Kaliakair-Maona regional road in Chapair Bridge area under Kaliakair upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Mir Alam, 40, son of Mir Musa of Azgana village in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail district. He was a worker a local garment factory.
The accident occurred in the area when a covered van was going to Maona from Kaliakair. On the way the covered van hit a passenger-carrying battery-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction around 8am, leaving Alam dead on the spot and five others passengers of the battery-run auto-rickshaw injured, sub-inspector (SI) of Kaliakair Police Station Fancy Biswas Jewell said.
The injured were sent to Pangu Hospital in Dhaka, he said.
Police recovered the body from the spot.
Police seized the covered van but its driver escaped.
Legal action is under process in this regard, SI added.
