Ginger farmers in Rangpur expect good output

RANGPUR, Sept 17: The Ginger growers in Rangpur agriculture region are expecting a good output of their produce during the current season due to a favourable weather condition and timely supply of agri-inputs.

Sources said the farmers are earning good profit through the cultivation of the spicy crop in recent years which is encouraging them to enhance its cultivation this season.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Rangpur official sources said, around 4000 hectares of land have been brought under ginger cultivation in five districts under the region during this season. The districts are Rangpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha.

Due to good profit the growers are showing more interest in farming the crop in recent years, sources said.

DAE sources said the atmosphere and moderate rainfall and soil of the region are also congenial to the farming of different varieties of spicy crops including ginger and some other spicy crops.

Roufunnabi, a ginger grower of Baniapara village in Taraganj upazila said he prefers spicy crop farming than the cultivation of other crops owing to huge profit.

He has cultivated ginger on 30 decimals of land this season. During last few years he has been getting a good yield as well as expected profit from farming of the crop, he also said.
