Gopalganj farmers busy preparing seedbeds for Boro cultivation

GOPALGANJ, Nov 25: The farmers in all five upazilas of Gopalganj district are busy preparing their seedbeds to grow healthy seedlings for Boro paddy cultivation during the current Boro season.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Gopalganj about 1925 metric tonnes (MT) of local, High Yielding Variety (HYV) and hybrid seeds will be grown on 4367 hectares of land in the district this season.
Above 50 per cent seedbeds had already been prepared and the rest would be completed around December, DAE official sources said.
To make the programme a success, high quality seeds of the paddy like BRRI Dhan 28, 29, 47, 50, BR 14, 26 & Bina Dhan-11 are being distributed among the farmers at reasonable prices through BADC, Gopalganj.
It may be mentioned that Department of Agricultural Extension, Gopalganj has taken 74,703 hectares of land for cultivation with a production target of 2,63,952 MT rice in the district in the current season.
Abu Talib Mollah (55) a farmer of village Golabaria under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila of the district told the F.E. that high quality seeds was supplied to him from Agriculture Office and he completed his seedbeds for cultivation of Boro.
