Gopalganj farmers earn record profit from tomato farming

GOPALGANJ, Mar 14: Farmers of Gopalganj Sadar are happy over prices of tomato this year as they have earned record profit.
Local farmers said they produced around 300 to 350 maunds of tomato from one bigha of land this season and selling those in local markets.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), the farmers had cultivated tomato on 750 bighas of land in Sadar Upazila of the district this year.
Bishnu Pada Bala (55), a farmer of village Raghunathpur Charpara under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila expressed his satisfaction over the bumper production and record profit of tomato farming. Bishnu said, "I have collected 100 maunds of tomato from my 15 decimals of land this year and got a profit of Tk 21,000.
He also said per maunds of tomato is being sold between Tk 300 to Tk 320 in the local markets while the farmers had to spend Tk 100 to Tk 110 for production of one maund tomato, he added. alimuzzaman81@gmail.com
