Gopalganj farmers poised for bumper production of BARI Musur-6

GOPALGANJ, Mar 21: The farmers of Gopalganj district are expecting a bumper production of BARI Musur-6 this season due to a favourable weather condition and timely supply of agricultural inputs by local agriculture offices.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Gopalganj, around 3,717 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation this year in five upazilas of the district.
The farmers reap profit of about Tk 35,000 to Tk 38,000 from per bigha (52 decimal) of land by cultivating the hybrid variety of the crop. Many growers are seen showing their interest in cultivating BARI Musur-6 as they reaped benefit in the previous years.
While visiting a field of BARI Musur-6 at Echakhali village under Sadar Upazila of the district, it was found that farmers were working in the field and harvesting the crop with smiling face.
Bidu Sarder (50), a farmer of village Echakhali village under Sadar Upazila said, "I have cultivated on 1.50 local bighas (78 decimal) of land this season where spending Tk 5,500 and I expect about Tk 50,000 as profit.
Atul Krishna Mollik, Deputy Director (DD), Agriculture, Gopalganj told the FE, high quality of seeds, favourable weather condition, adequate supply of necessary fertilisers, pesticides and water arrangement helped the farmers to grow this crop successfully this year.
