Gopalganj, Gazipur road accidents kill three

Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in Gopalganj and Gazipur districts on Thursday, report agencies.

In Gopalganj, two people were killed and 15 were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Sonashur in Sadar upazila of Gopalganj district early Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Mizan Sheikh, son of Alimuddin Sheikh of Rupsha upazila, and Saima Begum, wife of Raju Ahmed of Dumuria upazila in Khulna district.

Abul Hasem, officer-in-charge of Kashiani Bhatipara Highway Police, said the accident occurred around 2 am when the Satkhira-bound 'Tungipara Express' from Dhaka collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction, leaving two people dead on the spot and 15 injured.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

Of the injured, five were taken to Gopalganj 250-bed hospital while the others were given first aid.

In Gazipur, a man was killed after the driver lost control over the steering of a private car and fell into a ditch at Badnibhanga bridge area of the Badnibhanga-Gazipur regional road under Sreepur upazila of the district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Mafiz Mondal, 65, son of Golam Mawla of Shailat village of Gazipur union of the upazila. His car driver Rubel was also injured.

The deceased's nephew Rafiqul Islam said that Mafiz Mondal bought a new private car from Dhaka three days ago. After the Fajr prayer, he left home with the newly bought private car. After going some distance, the private car lost control and fell into the road side ditch around 6:30am this morning.

Locals broke the window glass of the private car and recovered his dead body from the car.

The injured driver was taken to local hospital, said Mintu Sheikh, in-charge of Mauna Police outpost.
