Govt committed to save silk industry: Azam

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Aug 21: State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam MP on Wednesday said, the government is committed to save the silk industry.
He said this while visiting the sericulture nursery at Bholahat in Chapainawabganj district today morning.
During his visit, lawmaker of Nachole, Gomostapur, Bholahat constituency Golam Mostofa Biswas, director general (DG) of Bangladesh Silk Board Swapon Chandra Pal, deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangir Kabir and police super Bashir Ahmed were present on the occasion.
He added that although BNP government had destroyed it during their tenure but the government has taken initiatives to control import of silk from abroad to save the industry.
The silk of Bholahat has a tradition and the farmers should be inspired to produce silk, he further added.
He also visited the loom and silk factories at Ranihati under Shibganj upazila and Laharpur in sadar Upazila. He also inaugurated the Chapainawabganj Textile Vocational Institute.
