Govt working for mainstreaming disabled population: RCC Mayor

RANGPUR, July 13 (BSS): Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu Sunday said the present government has been working for mainstreaming the physically challenged population to ensure their development.

He said this while distributing books and Tk 1.80 million (Tk 18.06 lakh) as allowance among 301 disabled people of all 33 wards of the city at a ceremony arranged by "Sahar Samaj Seba" Office at its office in the city as the chief guest.

With 'Sahar Samaj Seba' Officer of the Social Service Department (SSD) Emdadul Haque Pramanik in the chair, RCC Councilors Mahbubar Rahman Manju, Tauhidul Islam, Hafizur Rahman Chhuttu, Nurunnabi Fulu, Akram Hossain, Nizamul Islam Badal and Anwarul Islam addressed the ceremony as the special guests.

All City Councilors, officials and employees of SSD, the beneficiary physically challenged people from all over 33 wards in the city corporation area, media workers and civil society members were present.

Under the programme, the SSD through its Sahar Samaj Seba Office distributed the allowance amounting to Tk 6,000 to each of the beneficiary disabled person at the rate of Tk 500 per month for the just ended 2014-2015 fiscal year.

The City Mayor said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working for ensuring well-being of the physically challenged people and stressed for ensuring their equal socio-political rights for their sustainable development.
