Ground nut harvesting going on in full swing in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH June 20 (BSS): Groundnut harvesting is going on in full swing at all five upazilas of the district.
Farmers are very happy to get the bumper production and fair price of the nut. About six mounds groundnut is coming from one Bigha. Per mound ground nut is selling at Tk 4,000 to Tk 4,500 at local bazaar now.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 12,500 hectares have been brought under groundnut cultivation this year with the production target of 22,900 tonnes. The farmers of the district have cultivated high yielding variety in their lands.
Amjat Ali, a farmer of Taltola village under Debiganj upazila said, in last year, I cultivated groundnut on my one bigha at a cost of Tk 6,000 and earned Tk 14,000.
He also said, this year, I have cultivated groundnut of five bighas and got 27 mounds after harvesting. I did not sell it for better prices.
Deputy Director of the DAE Md Abdul Motin said the farmers of the district are showing great interest to cultivate groundnut.
