PANCHAGARH, Mar 03 (BSS): Groundnut cultivation is gaining popularity among the farmers in the district recently as soil and weather condition are very suitable for groundnut cultivation.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 8,000 hectares of land have been brought under groundnut cultivation in the district this year with the production target of 14,300 tonnes of groundnut.
The farmers of the district have cultivated high yielding groundnut in their lands. Now seed groundnut is being sold Tk 5,000 to Tk 5,500 per mound in local markets.
Sunil Kumar, a farmer of Sabouspara village under Debiganj upazila said, "Last year I cultivated groundnut on three bighas of land spending Tk 10,000 and I earned Tk 30,000 by selling groundnut in the local market."
"I have cultivated groundnut on my five bighas of land this year and I am expecting to earn Tk 70,000 from the groundnut after meeting all expenditure", he said.
Deputy director of DAE M Shamsul Haque said the farmers of the district are showing more interest in producing groundnut.
