BOGRA, July 5: Handloom industry has turned busy in Bogra district as local people demand a lot ahead Eid-ul-Fitr.
The weavers, who depend on the profession are passing time busily to provide new clothes for children, men and women.
A according to sources, around 5000 families, especially in Shawl, Pallapara, Futanigonj and Kanai village, are engaged in the district including 12 upazilas to make money.
Many items including lungi, woolen handkerchief, cap and indigenous saree are being woven at different places across the district from the very beginning of the month of Ramadan according to the demand of the area.
On the other hand, the buyers area crowding in order to purchase varieties of new clothes at very low price.
As a result, the weavers are passing their time busily to meet the demand of the local people. A weaver, Kamrul Hasan, son of Shariful Islam of Shawl village under Adamdighi upazila said, "Price of new clothes vary according to quality and size."
"The woven clothes are being sold beside the footpath, bus stand area, new market, Sharif uddin Market, rail way station, in front of Zilla school area, roadsides of Bogra municipality area and hospital premises." he added.
Shafiqul Islam, son of Shekinder Ali of Futanigonj village under Dupchanchia upazila said, "I weave around thirteen handkerchiefs per day spending Tk. 600 and I sell them in Chomuhony haat Tk. 1200."
The inmates of Dupchanchia, Adamdighi, Kahaloo, Sherpur, Shibgonj, Shonatola and Dhunot said that they have bought handloom clothes from local haat.
