Harvesting of jute progressing fast in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, July 22 (BSS): Harvesting of jute is progressing fast in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current season amid much enthusiasm to the farmers as they are getting desired production.
The cultivators are not worried over rotting problems as there are adequate water bodies, ditches and canals, even in the jute fields.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 4,148 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation in the district exceeding the target.
Deputy Director of DAE Alimuzzaman Miah said necessary steps were taken to ensure supply of adequate quantity of improved quality seeds, fertilisers, insecticides and other agricultural inputs among the growers in due time. The cultivators were also given necessary training on cultivation. Soil of Singair upazila is suitable for jute cultivation in the district.
