Harvesting of mustard begins in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Mar 6: Harvesting of mustard has started in Nilphamari district. Farmer's sources said this year's production of mustard is satisfactory.
DAE's target of average per hectare production of mustard is 1.20 metric tonnes but it is expected to surpass the target.
Majibur Rahman one mustard farmer of Itakhola union parishad of sadar upaziila Nilphamari said he cultivated mustard in one acre of land and he harvested 18 maunds of mustard which is double the average production target set by DAE this year.
DAE sources said this year's target of mustard cultivation of the district is in 2029 hectares of land to produce 2435 metric tonnes at an average per hectare production of 1.20 metric tonnes. Sources said only the early cultivated mustard crops are being harvested by now. The farmers are in a hurry to do so because they would cultivate Boro in the same land after harvesting the oil seed crop.
