TANGAIL, Mar 11: Farmers of different upazilas of the district have begun harvesting of sweet potato in full swing. Growers are happy as they are making a good profit by cultivating this corp.
A sweet potato grower Mostofa Miah, son of Falu Miah of village Kuchia Mai under Sadar upazila told to the FE that he brought two bighas of land under sweet potato cultivation and hopeful to earn a good profit.
The ultra poor farmers of the district have become able to overcome their poverty by growing sweet potato. According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail, farmers of the district cultivated sweet potato on 1022 hectares of land this year with the production target 17026 tonnes of corps.
Shariful Islam, sub-assistant of DAE, Tangail said, most of char area people cultivated sweet potato and they also like to take it in their breakfast.
