NILPHAMARI, Apr 1: Harvesting of wheat has just started in Nilphamari district. In the meantime harvested new wheat started to come in the markets for sale.
Price of new wheat is hovering between Tk. 800 to 900 per maund (40 kg). Farmers are expecting bumper production of the crop as the climate was favourable throughout the season.
Farmer Majibur Rahman of Khogshabari union parishad of Sadar upazila said he harvested one bigha (30 decimal) of wheat that produced 15 maunds. He said he would be able to sell the wheat at Tk. 13000 whereas the total production cost was Tk. 5000. DEA sources said this year's target of wheat cultivation in the district is in 4373 hectare of land to produce 13338 metric tonnes of wheat at an average production of 3.05 metric tonnes per hectare.
