RANGPUR, Apr 23 (BSS): The poor mothers, women during pregnancy and post delivery period, newborn babies, children and adolescents will get cost free health and nutrition services to further reduce maternal and neonatal deaths in the city.
Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu said this while laying foundation stone of the Maternity Centre at a ceremony arranged at Mahiganj area in the city on Tuesday afternoon as the chief guest.
The health and nutrition services will be provided under third phase of the Urban Primary Health Care Services Delivery Project (UPHCSDP) being implemented by the Local Government Division under Annual Development Programme of the Government of Bangladesh.
Rangpur City Corporation launched the new health services programme since October 2013 under the 4-year term project to be ended by June in 2017 in the city with the main objective of reducing maternal and child death rates.
Under the programme, comprehensive health services and cost free treatments will be provided to hundreds of mothers and children through its Maternity Centre at Mahiganj and three other Primary Health Care Centres at different places in the city.
The RCC and Khulna Mukti Sena Sangstha have been jointly implementing the project to ensure health, nutrition and other related services for mothers, children and population to improve their health status and reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
Chief Executive Officer of RCC Ruhul Amin Khan, its Secretary Fazlul Kabir, Councilor for Ward No-30 Jahangir Alam Tota, Superintending Engineer Emdad Hossain, its Executive Engineer Azam Ali, Executive Engineer of LGED Akhter Hossain and its Assistant Engineer Shafiur Rahman attended the ceremony as special guests.
President of District Crockery Association Ali Hossain Mollah, Joint Secretary of City Shop Owners' Association Moazzem Hossain Mithu, Chief Accounts Officer of RCC Abdul Hakim, contractors Kazi Faruk Ahmed and Noor Mohammad Shamim attended.
