Heat wave affects litchi production in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Apr 21: Production of litchi seems not to be so satisfactory as it was expected during the sprouting time in Nilphamari and it's neighbouring districts including Dinajpur, Thakurgon and Panchagarh.

Sources said the sprouting was very good but now the tender buds are drying up and becoming weak due to unfavourable weather. Excessive heat in the day and winter season like cold in the night created this situation.

However, the growers are nursing the trees by providing irrigation and spraying pesticides to get expected production. Litchis of this region is very sweet and big in size which are transported to various parts of the country after meeting the local need.
