MAGURA, Jun 9: Heavy rainfall has brought smile on the faces of the jute growers in Magura. It was raining heavily for about 14 days in the district. Earlier jute growers were in anxiety over jute production as drought-like situation was prevailing in the district. Recent rainfall has raised hope among the growers in Magura. Now the farmers are expecting a bumper production of jute.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Magura sources said, a total of 28500 hectares of land has been brought under jute cultivation in the district with an output target of 3,00500 bales. The total rainfall in the district from May 25 to June 7 was 275 mm.
Abu Sharif, a jute grower in village Beroil under Magura Sadar Upazila said, "I cultivated jute in 4 bighas of land. My jute plants were attacked by insects as drought like situation has been prevailing in the district. Due to heavy rainfall in recent time my jute plants are now free from insect attack."
When contacted Magura DAE deputy director Mokhlesur Rahman said, recent rainfall has come as a blessing for Magura jute growers. Now they were expecting a bumper production of jute.
