NAOGAON, Sept 02: Jute growers are happy as the district has witnessed high yield and fair prices of the crop this year.
The farmers in the district have got good production as weather was favourable during the cultivation period.
They did not faced any problem about rotting and processing the fibre as water bodies contained necessary water in presence of adequate rain.
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office said jute was cultivated on 6,930 hectares of land in 11 upazilas of the district this year. The cultivated varieties included native, mesta and tosha.
The growers said depending on the quality, jute was selling at Tk. 1,800 to Tk. 2,000 per maund in different markets of the district.
Among the 11 upazilas of the district, Naogaon Sadar, Badalgachi and Atrai have seen a very good production of the jute in the current season.
Farmer Bidhan Prananik of Kola village under Badalgachi upazila said he have been cultivating jute for the last 8-9 years. This year he is happy over good price of the product.
Deputy Director of District DAE Manojit Kumar Mallik informed farmers are getting good price of jute as per demand of the market.
Adequate rain and necessary dry weather helped boost the jute yield in the district, he added.
