Chattogram police on Wednesday recovered illegal arms and ammunition from the house of a former lawmaker.
He tried to escape to India after the fall of the Awami League (AL) regime, but law enforcers detained him and sent him to jail about two weeks ago.
A rifle, three different types of guns, and seven rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the former Chittagong-6 MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury's house in his village. Only the rifle was licensed among the recovered weapons.
Police conducted ano-ther raid in a flat belonging to the lawmaker in Chittagong city's Khulshi area, but nothing illegal was found in the house.
A case has been registered at Raozan police station in connection with the recovery of arms and bullets, Chittagong ASP ANM Wasim Feroze said.
Not depositing legal arms within the stipulated time also renders them illegal, he added.
On September 24, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury was produced before the court in Chattogram under tight security. He was shown arrested in two cases filed at Panchlaish and Chandgaon police stations.
In one of the cases, he is accused over the vandalism of the Muniriya Youth Tabligh Commi-ttee's prayer hall in Raozan. Moreover, he is also accused in a case lodged with Chawk Bazar police station over the murder of Nurul Alam, a central Chhatra Dal leader.
