Incidents of theft up at Thakurgaon hospital

RANGPUR, Sept 24: Incidents of theft have risen alarmingly at Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital in recent days, much to the worry of the patients and their relatives.

According to sources, more than 30 theft incidents took place during last couple of weeks in different wards of the hospital.

It is alleged that a syndicate of thieves in collusion with a section of unscrupulous employees and staff members of the hospital are committing such crimes frequently.

A number of patients and attendants including Reshma from Piraganj upazila, Aslam and Kismat from Ranisankail upazila of the district said they are in trouble as many of their valuable goods including mobile phone sets, medicine and money were stolen during last few days.

They informed the authority about the matter but no step has been taken so far, they said, "We feel totally insecure in the hospital", they added.

It alleged that the thieves move at different wards of the hospital in the guise of employees and attendants and pilfer valuable goods of the patients and attendants including money, mobile phone and medicine.

Superintendent of the hospital Probash Chandra Roy admitted that the incidents of theft have become a matter of concern for them.

He blamed some groups of outsiders for this who intrude into the hospital and commit such crimes.

He said, the authority is struggling to combat the situation, despite the lack of adequate manpower due , he said. If they get enough manpower, they might be able to tackle the situation, he added.
