Independence Day observed in dists

GOPALGANJ, Mar 27: The 44th Independence and National Day-2014 was celebrated in the district Wednesday.

The day began at early morning with firing of 31 gunshots at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Gopalganj city.

Earlier at 1am floral wreaths were placed at the mazars of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara, Gopalganj.

District Administration, Awami League, BNP and other political parties and different cultural organisations placed floral wreaths and hoisted the national flag on the independence and national memorial plaque near at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Gopalganj city early in the morning.

Our RU Correspondent reports:  The 44th Independence and National Day was observed in the Rajshahi University (RU) in a befitting manner like every year through paying tributes to the freedom fighters.

The university authority and several socio cultural organizations chalked out day-long programmes to observe the National and Independence Day at the campus.

To commemorate the day Vice Chancellor of RU Prof. Muhammed Mizan Uddin along others top officials of the university placed floral wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar of the university Wednesday.

Our Correspondent Pabna adds: The Independence Day was celebrated here in Pabna on Wednesday recalling the supreme sacrifice made by millions of people in 1971 Liberation war.

The day started with 31 gun salutes at early morning at the Pabna Aminuddin Stadium. The programmes were heralded with the placing of floral wreaths at the central martyred memorial located in front of deputy commissioner office by district administration, freedom fighters, Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), Pabna press club, reporters unit, representative of different political parties, socio cultural organisations, educational institutes and various professional organisations to pay respect to those valiant freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the independence of the country.
