NILPHAMARI, Oct 25: Huge Aman paddy fields are being affected by insects in Nilphamari district. Particularly Sarna variety of Aman paddy is affected seriously. Insects such as Curren, Mazra and so on are found in the plants, as a result of which the plants are turning weak and dying consequently.
While contacted one farmer Moinuddin of Itakhola UP of Sadar upazila said he cultivated Sarna variety paddy in five bighas of land out of which two bighas of the croplands has been affected by insects. While contacted another farmer Aminur Rahman of Netai UP of Kishorgong upazila said he cultivated Sarna variety paddy in six bighas of land which are affected by the insects.
DAE sources said Sarna variety was cultivated in15000 hectares of land in this season in the district. Sources added farmers may become reluctant to cultivate this particular variety of paddy in the next year as it proved vulnerable to insects.
