Intercity train service from M'singh by Dec, says Railway state minister

MYMENSINGH, May 14 (BSS): State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid has said the government is planning to introduce an intercity train service from Mymensingh.

The train will run either on the Mymensingh-Dhaka route or the Mymensingh-Sylhet route, he told journalists on Thursday.

Initiatives will also be taken to modernize Mymensingh Railway Station to improve passenger services, including passenger sheds, restrooms, public toilets and a prayer room, he said.

The minister said plans have also been taken to construct a bailey bridge over the Brahmaputra River at Kacharighat area and build three overpasses or underpasses at suitable locations across the city to ease traffic congestion.

Habibur Rashid said that although many demands have been raised, it would not be possible to fulfill all of them immediately due to resource constraints.
