IU Saddam Hussain Hall plagued with problems

A CORRESPONDENT | February 29, 2024 00:00:00

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Feb 28: The Saddam Hossain Hall in Islamic University (IU) has been plagued by various problems for a long time, causing immense sufferings for students.

Although students have repeatedly made complaints, the hall provost has not taken any step to solve the problems, campus sources said.

He has also held the IU administration responsible for not giving sufficient allocation to the hall.

During a visit to the campus, this correspondent has found that the hall faces many problems over internet, poor quality foods and unclean toilets and basins.

Students have alleged that the hall is facing half a dozen problems, including illegal occupation.

Besides this, some students are residents of other halls but are staying in this hall illegally, they added.

The IU took a move to resolve the problems after a news report headlined "IU Saddam Hossain Hall in various crises, slow to resolve" was published in the various national newspapers.

The hall provost took a note of the matter and inspected the hall's problems the next day.

After this, on February 12, the hall provost, house tutors and other officials started a move to resolve the problems in the hall and recover the illegally-occupied seats.

However, they assured that the problems of the hall would be resolved soon.

Meanwhile, resident students have raised a demand for a quick resolution to the hall problems.

A resident student of the hall said, "I went to the hall officials to take service. It was slow. I gave an application for a hall card four months ago, but it is still not there."

When asked on the issue, Provost Dr Asaduzzaman told the Financial Express (FE), "We're overseeing various problems and trying to solve them, but the IU is not giving enough budget."

"I am trying my best to solve the hall problems as soon as possible," he added.
