Jamalpur solar plant delights char people

JAMALPUR, Jan 28 (BSS): People in remote Munnia char surrounded by mighty Jamuna river are now happy as they are getting their long-cherished power supply from a solar plant.
Vincen Gtech Limited has set up the plant at a cost of Tk 88.1 million in Munnia Char in Belgachha union under Islampur upazila of the district.
The Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) financed for constructing the plant which produces 0.249 megawatt (MW) power every day. The plant began to produce power from December 22 last year.
Expressing satisfaction, one Ataur Rahman in the char area said people are now happy after getting power connections from the solar plant. It makes our daily event easy.
He said once it was a nightmare to switch on light at home. But now it came in reality. It's also facilitating villagers to irrigate their crop lands.
Plant Manager, M Israful Islam Bayzid said the plant has a capacity to give connections to 570 households and 110 commercial and 9 government organizations.
As part of the government's renewable energy programme, the solar plant was set up on 150 decimals of land at the char, he added.
Chairman of Vincen Gtech Limited, Mostafa Al Mahmud said the plant is completely environment friendly as it does not emit green house gas.
