KHULNA, Aug 17 (BSS): The Hindu community today celebrated Janmashtami marking the birth of Lord Krishna, in the city and district, with religious fervour.
On the occasion, different religious and socio-cultural organizations arranged programmes including prayer to Lord Krishna, discussions and songs praising Krishna.
Thousands of people joined the traditional Janmashtami procession that was brought out this noon from Arja Dharmashava temple premises in the city.
The procession paraded through different roads amid tight security and ended at the same point.
The procession was part of today's day-long programmes jointly organized by Khulna City and District Units of Puja Udjapon Parisad.
State Minister for Fisheries and Live Stock Naryan Chandra Chanda inaugurated the procession, which was attended, among others, by the law maker of Khulna-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan.
BSS reports from Faridpur: The joyful celebration of the birth day of Lord Krishna popularly known as Janmashtami was held here today in a befitting manner.
A colorful rally with a portrait of Lord Krishna was brought out in the morning from DC office premises which paraded the main thoroughfares of the town before terminating at Kabi Jasimuddin hall.
Another report from Rajshahi says: The Hindu community in Rajshahi city celebrated Janmashtami marking the birthday of Lord Krishna today amid festivity and religious fervor.
The day's programmes include worship of Lord Krishna, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, discussions and peace processions.
Marking the festival, Janmashtami Celebration Parishad took out a colurful rally from Hanumanjir Akhra Mondir that paraded different city streets.
Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Indian Assistant High Commissioner Sandip Mitra and President of Janmashtami Celebration Parishad Alok Kumar Das and General Secretary Tapan Kumar Sen jointed the rally, among others.
BSS reports from Gaibandha: Janmashtami, the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna and one of the biggest religious festivals of Hindus, was celebrated in all the seven upazilas in the district on Sunday with due religious fervor and much enthusiasm.
According to Hindu belief Lord Krishna came on the earth to destroy evil and establish in triumph of good. So the teachings of Krishna are very important to establish peace and prosperity in the trouble-torn word. His preaching in Bhagvad Geeta is still guiding light for the followers of the Hindu religion.
