Jasim Pollimela begins Jan 25 in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Jan 9 (BSS): Fortnight-long Pollimela (village fair) under the style of Jasim Pollimela commemorating the 110th birth anniversary of poet Jasimuddin will begin here from January 25 at village Gobindapur on the bank of river Kumar adjacent to the ancestral home of the poet.
In a meeting of the steering committee of Jasim Foundation chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur Abu Hena Morshed Zaman held this morning at the conference room of DC the decision of holding the fair, an annual ritual since 1996, was taken.
Though the birth day was on January 1 but the fair was shifted due to preoccupations of the national election.
In the meeting decisions were taken to set up more than hundred stalls with decorated stage for cultural performances.
The stalls will consist mostly with handicrafts and rural oriented cottage goods both for display and sale. Arrangements have also been made for other recreational options.
To make the fortnight-long fair secured and pleasant, all necessary measures including security, electricity, water supply, fire services, sanitation and improvement of connecting roads have been taken. A colourful souvenir will be brought out to mark the occasion.
Various sub-committees have been formed to supervise the preparations of the fair and make it successful. The DC informed the meeting that Labour, Employment and Expatriate Welfare Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain will inaugurate the fair.
