JHENIDAH, Feb 25: RDA, Bogra, has financed Tk 2.5 million for community bio-gas plant and dairy farm to Badanpur CVDCS Ltd under Kalicharanpur union of Jhenidah Sadar upazila resulting in much improvement of the life of the local people.
RDA, Bogra, an autonomous organisation under Ministry of LGRD&C, has provided Tk 1.5 million for the plant and Tk 1.0 million for the farm and beef fattening through Centre for Irrigation and Water Management (CIWM).
CVDP, Jhenidah, a special programme of RDA, Bogra, is implementing the project.
Safiqul Islam, DC, Jhenidah, Sadar upazila chairman Abdul Alim, UNO Zulkar Nayen, APD Gazi Nazrul Haque along with other upazila officers and local representatives, including UP Chairman Alamgir Hossain visited the plant last month.
The farming community of Badanpur CVDCS has been benefited much after the plant had been established here last year. The housewives of the village are presently using bio-gas for cooking at their homes.
"The supply of bio-gas and arsenic-free water in the village through pipelines has made our life easier now," said Maruf Billah, a village worker.
Jolly Khatun, wife of Rabiul Islam, a beneficiary of the project told this correspondent that she had been getting gas supply for long to cook food items at her house.
Badanpur CVDCS established in 2006 with 40 members has got nearly 150 members until now. The organisation having assets worth about Tk. 3 million has turned to be a successful organisation, said Rabiul Isam, manager of the CVDCS.
Now the society is getting around 50 litres of milk from five hybrid cows, which have been being reared in the sheds at the project site.
Masud Rana, president of Badanpur CVDCS told the FE that they were selling bio-fertiliser, a byproduct of the plant, which has become income-generating. It is reducing the unemployment problem, he added.
At present, the monthly income of the society is around Tk 75,000 from sale of milk, bio-fertiliser, bio-gas and beef fattening, etc.
With the increased income, they are now being involved in different social welfare activities like distributing warm clothes among the destitute, rice, dal, semai and sugar during Eid festivals and blood donation and blood grouping.
APD Nazrul said, "Badanpur is one of the most successful CVDCS of Jhenidah Sadar. We are trying to establish more such types of societies throughout the upazila."
Their major future plans include establishing a solar deep tube-well having a capacity for cultivating 33 acres of land and solar home system this year.
