Journalists\\\' role in familiarising digital system underscored

RAJSHAHI, Jun 30 (BSS): Speakers at a meeting here today said the role of print and electronics media is very vital towards familiarizing the digitization process among the people in general.

They viewed many people both urban and rural areas are getting benefits of the modern information and communication technology and many of them have become dependent on the digitized public services. The success stories need to be brought under media coverage so that more other people can avail the services.

Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) organized the journalists meeting at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner in Rajshahi today on the closing day of a two-day Journalists Field Trip on Digital Bangladesh. Access to Information (A2I) Programme, Prime Minister's Office supported the event.

Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury addressed the discussion as chief guest with Saiful Islam, Programmer of the Ministry of Information, in the chair. Hassan Benaul Islam, Communication Expert of A2I Programme, gave an overview of the programme in his welcome address.

Associate Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Rajshahi University Prodip Kumar Panday, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Dr Dewan Shahriar Firoj and journalists Imdadul Haque and Mamum- or Rashid also spoke.

The speakers categorically said that a Digital Bangladesh is crucial for freeing the nation from the curse of corruption and monopoly. They said there is no alternative to large-scale promotion of the modern information and communication technology to enrich the nation politically, socially and economically.

The chief guest mentioned that digital technology is the only driving force to establish an impartial and knowledge-based society to ensure equal distribution of scopes and resources for the people.
