Joypurhat sees good carrot output

Roving Correspondent
JOYPURHAT, Jan 27: Hundreds of marginal farmers of the region are happy over the good production and fair market price of carrot in the district.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources, the winter vegetable is being cultivated on a larger scale in the area this season.
A good numbers of farmers of Akkelpur, Kalai, Panchbibi, Khetlal and Sadar upazilas are growing the item abundantly.
Carrot is being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 35 in the local retail market while the wholesale rate is Tk 25 to Tk 28. Traders from across the country start visiting the area to purchase the item.
"I have brought some 34 decimals of land under carrot cultivation this season spending Tk 5,900. I have already harvested some 10 maunds of production and made a profit of Tk 12,000 from the sale of those, said farmer Hamudul Islam of Panchbibi upazila.
"I expect to make Tk 20,000 more till the end of the season", the grower further said.
Deputy director of DAE Sudhindranath Roy said, "We have provided all sort of support to the carrot cultivators to make the farming programme a success."
