PANCHAGARH Apr 23 (BSS): Jute cultivation has started in the district with a target of bringing 10,065 hectares of land under its cultivation this year.
According to officials of DAE Panchagarh, a total 10,065 hectares of arable land will be brought under jute cultivation in the district this year while the production target is 130,189 metric tonnes.
Local varieties will be cultivated in 1,880 hectares of land to produce 14,562 tonnes of jute while Tossa variety will be cultivated in 8,185 hectares of land to produce 115,623 tonnes of jute.
Cultivation of jute decreased substantially in the district as the farmers are now cultivating Boro paddy instead of jute, the DAE officials said.
