CHUADANGA, May 28; the jute fields of the district are being damaged due to scorching sunshine, drought and pest attack in the current season.

The jute growers of the four upazilas of the district are passing time with worry as they are not getting any remedy applying pesticides and chemical fertilisers.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said here some 17,800 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation during the current season with production target of 2.49,200 bales of jute in the district. But there has been absolutely no sufficient rainfall which is causing pest attack on jute plants.

The jute cultivators are waiting for the blessing of rain or it won't not be possible to harvest a good yield. Many farmers said they have already spent enough money for the cultivation exceeding their normal expenditure.

Suddiqur Rahman, a jute farmer of village Kulchara under Sadar Upazila said he brought two bighas of land under jute cultivation this year but his jute fields have been attacked with pests.
