Jute goods worth Tk 40m lying unsold in 9 state run jute mills

KHULNA, Oct 18: The jute goods produced in state-run jute mills of Khulna are not being sold as the demand for it has been fallen in the world market including Middle East. Jute goods worth Tk 40 million has been lying unsold in 9 state run jute mills of Khulna-Jessore area.
The Khalishpur jute mill is likely to continue production for 20 more days with the current stock of raw jute. Besides, the stock of raw jute in Jessore Carpeting Mill may keep the mill running for about 22 days, Crescent Jute Mill for 10 days, Daulatpur Jute Mill for 18 days, JJI for 9 days, Sattar Jute Mills for 16 days, Platinum jute mill for 10 days and the raw jute stock may keep the Eastern Jute mill going for hardly 8 days, sources at the mill said Saturday.
The state-run jute mills are short of finance and raw materials as a huge produced jute goods are remaining unsold in these mills.
Jute mills sources said that 8776 tonnes produced jute goods are laying unsold in Crescent Jute Mill, 6597 in Platinum Jute Mill, 1613 in Daulatpur Jute Mill, 9173 in Khalishpur Jute Mill, 4634 in Star Jute Mill, 2255 in Alim Jute Mill, 3505 in Eastern Jute Mill, 3480 in JJI and 572 in Carpeting Jute Mill. As total of 40,605 tonnes jute goods are in stock in 9 mills worth about Tk 40 million.
