Kachua farmers build road to carry crops

CHANDPUR, Apr 20: The farmers of Palakhal Union in Kachua Upazila have built a road on the khas land to carry crops home from cropland.
For a want of this three-km road, hundreds of farmers had to undergo a lot of inconveniences in carrying crops from cropland in remote Meghdair Purba village, locals said.
For many years, it was a big problem for farmers and other people, including schoolchildren.
The farmers were the worst sufferers from the want of this road.
However, some farmers came forward to building this road on the government land in order to mitigate their immense sufferings.
Their fellows and other people help make the road.
Not only farmers but also hundreds of general people have got a great relief from the sufferings for the want of this road.
Farmers have told the FE that they started building this road at their own initiative to mitigate their sufferings.
Locals said they are now ready to sacrifice their land beside this road to broaden it.
The broad road will mitigate the long-running sufferings of farmers and schoolchildren.
When contacted, local UP Chairman Habibur Rahman Majumder Joy told the FE that a road might be built on government land for the convenience of farmers in Meghdair Purba village.
In the coming fiscal year, this road will be included in the development programme, he also says.
Kachua Upazila Agricultural officer Mejbah Uddin has said a road is urgently needed in this area for farmers to carry their crops like boro paddy, fruits and vegetables to their homes from cropland.
He also says that these crops grow in plenty in this area, but they face many problems while carrying them home for want of a short road.
