Kangsha river erosion threatens important road in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Dec 26: Thakurakona road from Fakira Bazar in Barhatta upazila of Netrakona is threatened by the erosion of the Kangsha river.
In the last two years, the Kangsh River has eroded. hundreds of houses in four villages. The only road connecting the district town is also crumbling.
During the floods in Kornapur, Charpara, Pachpai and Batta Para villages of Fakira Bazar in Netrakona's Barhatta upazila, hundreds of families lost their homes in the river. The only road in the area is under threat.One km road from Thakurakona to Fakir Bazar of Charpara area has been damaged. The road is the only means of communication for the people of this region.
Belal of Charpara village in Raipur union of Barhatta upazila said the road in Charpara has been damaged. Big accidents can happen at any time.
Rahish Uddin, a resident of Kornapur village of Raipur Union, said the road, only means of communication from the district town is going into the river. If the road goes away, there is a danger that the crop land of Raipur Union will be damaged by the accumulation of river sand. He demanded immediate construction of Kangsh river bank from Fakira Bazar to Kornapur.
Atiqur Rahman Raju, chairman of Raipur Union Parishad No. 7 of Barhatta Upazila, said he had repeatedly contacted the authorities to protect the road, including the village protection dam, but to no avail.
SM Saikat, Executive Engineer of Netrakona Water Development Board, said that the banks of Kangsh river have been protected which has been brought to the notice of higher authorities. Necessary steps will be taken after inspection.
