Kharip chilli brings smile on Magura farmers\\\' faces

MAGURA, Feb 10: Harvesting of Kharip chilli has brought smile on the faces of Magura farmers.
Newly-harvested chilli has started to come to the market. Price of chilli in the market is highly satisfactory to the farmers which is Tk 200 to Tk 220 per kg.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Magura said, a total of 1060 hectares of land have been brought under Kharip chilli cultivation in the district this year. A bumper production of chilli has been achieved which is 1588 metric tonnes this year.
When contacted, Gaffar Biswas, a farmer of village Aldhani under Magura Sadar Upazila said, "I cultivated chilli in 2 bighas of land. I have earned more than Tk 0.15 million by selling my chilli.
Another chilli grower, Jamir Sheikh, of village Kapashiti under Magura Sadar Upazila said, "I cultivated chilli in 4 bighas of land. I have sold my chilli at Tk 0.3 million while my production cost was Tk 50 thousand. That is my profit has stood at Tk 0.2 million which is beyond my expectation.
