THAKURGAON, Dec 20 (BSS): The water of 'Khuniadighee', a huge water body, still remains as silent witness of the heinous crimes committed against humanity by the Pakistani occupation forces with their local collaborators here in 1971. During the 9-month long War of Liberation, the occupation forces tortured and killed the independence-seeker innocent people and freedom fighters in different torture camps and dumped over 3,000 bodies into the 'Khuniadighee' water.
The local people named the water body as 'Khuniadighee' which means its water is mixed with blood of the martyred Bangalees irrespective of their caste, creed and religion.
According to eyewitnesses and elderly people, the Pakistani occupation forces caught thousands of innocent Bangalees from different areas, brought them to the torture camps, tortured and killed them and dumped the bodies into the 'Khuniadighee' water.
The 'Khuniadighee' is situated in village Bhandara under Ranisonkoil upazila, one kilometre from torture camp of the Pakistani army set up in 1971 near Ranisonkoil Thana when its water turned red due to mixing with human blood.
Another torture cell was set up then at Ranisonkoil Government Model Primary School where the Pakistani army hanged innocent Bangalees with a mango tree, tortured and killed them before throwing the bodies into the 'Khuniadighee' water.
The occupation forces in association with their local collaborators also caught hundreds of daughters of the soil, molested and killed them at different torture camps set up in the area and dumped the bleeding bodies into the water there.
Talking to BSS, eyewitnesses Mohiuddin Ahmed Lalu, 65, of Ranisonkoil upazila town, Faizul Haque, 62, and Takbir Ali, 64, of Bhandara village narrated the terrific stories of those days with fear, emotion and tears.
Former Commander of Ranisonkoil upazila unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Sirajul Islam said, he along with his fellow freedom fighters, lifted some 1,500 human skulls from the 'Khuniadighee' water in 1972 after the War of Liberation.
