LALMONIRHAT, Feb 29 (BSS): A college student was killed and five others were injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and an auto-rickshaw on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway in Kakina Obda Bazar area under Kaliganj upazila of the district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, 25, son of Manowar Master, a resident of Shail Mari village of the upazila. He was the master's student of Kakina Uttar Bangla College of the area.
The accident occurred around 11.30am when they were going to Lalmonirhat from Kaliganj riding an auto-rickshaw to take part in the master's examination. Sohel Rana died on the spot and five others including four students were injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station Imtiaz Kabir said.
The injured were taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.
Later, two of the injured were shifted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.
Police seized the covered van but its driver fled away, the OC added.
