Landless peasants expect bumper output of groundnut in Bogra

BOGRA, Dec 25: Hundred of landless peasants of the district are expecting a bumper production of groundnut this season.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources, over 3000 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of groundnut this year with the production target of 9,000 maunds.
Farmers of Baishakhi, Radhanagar, Neusairakandi, Batuar and Pukuriachar areas are shown more interest to extend the cultivation of the popular crop as they have been getting repeated bumper production and good market price.
Farmers sow seeds on the prepared field in November, said farmer Rubel Mia of Baishakhi Char area of Dhunat upazila. He further said to farm a bigha of land farmers have to spend around Tk 1,500.
Farmer Azizul Haque of Radhanagar Char said farmers can achieve on average eight to nine maunds of yield if weather condition remains favourable.
