Late blight disease of potato breaks out in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Jan 29: Late blight disease has broken out in most of the potato farmlands in Nilphamari district. In this disease the leaves of the potato plants become twisted and become weak and die consequently.
Sources said cold wave coupled with dense fog is the main cause of the disease. While contacted one block supervisor of DAE Badal Roy said farmers are being advised to spray Mencogeb and Melidodo medicine in the potato farmland affected in the disease and the farmers are doing so.
Late blight disease is a yearly phenomenon of potato plants and if any farmer do not use medicine in time his potato crops would suffer setback.
While contacted one farmer of Itakhola Union parishad of sadar Upazila said he cultivated potato in 60 decimal of land which are affected by the disease and he is now spraying the medicine suggested by the block supervisor and the plants are expected to be cured very soon.
