Laxmipur, Rajshahi, Dinajpur road accidents kill five

A total of five persons were killed in separate road accidents in Laxmipur, Rajshahi and Dinajpur districts on Monday, reprts agencies.
Meanwhile, a serious accident was narrowly avoided on Monday when a bus overturned in South Surma upazila of Sylhet district, with all 25 passengers escaping without major injuries.
In Laxmipur, a man and his granddaughter were killed after being hit by a speeding bus while crossing a road in Laxmipur Sadar upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin, 65, and his granddaughter Mim Akter, 4, hailing from Bhola, a nearby district of Lakshmipur.
Police and locals said the victims got on a bus from Majhuchowdhuryhat to go to Chattogram in the morning.
As the bus stopped at a refueling station to refill fuel around 9am Nasir Uddin and her granddaughter got off the bus.
When they were crossing Dhaka-Laxmipur regional road another bus ran over them, leaving the child dead on the spot and the grandfather critically injured.
Nasir was rushed to Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, said the hospital's Resident Medical Officer Dr Aurup Pal, adding that the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue.
In Rajshahi, two cattle traders were killed and five others injured when their human hauler turned turtle and fell into a roadside ditch in Sangsail Bridge area under Niamatpur upazila in Naogaon district on Monday noon.
Police said the deceased were identified as Sharif Uddin, 62, of Damkura village, and Shamim Reja, 28, of Bangapara village of the upazila.
Al Mahmud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Niamatpur Police Station, said they were heading towards the Chhatra Cattle Market to purchase cattle on boarding the human hauler.
On the way, Sharif and Shamim fell prey to a road accident when their vehicle fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering around 2.30 pm, leaving both of them dead on the spot.
In Dinajpur, a mango trader was killed and another injured in a road accident on the Dinajpur-Bochaganj regional road in Dherapatia area under Biral upazila in the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Tarek, 35, a resident of Sujanagar upazila of Pabna district. He lived in his father-in-law's house in Hosna Kumarpara area under Biral upazila of Dinajpur district.
When he was going to destination with a mango-laden truck, on the way its driver lost control over the steering and eventually hit a roadside tree in the area at around 1:30pm this afternoon, leaving him dead on the spot and another person injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Biral Police Station inspector Golam Mawla said.
The injured was taken to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in critical condition, he said.
In Sylhet, the incident occurred around 5:30 am in front of the APBn office 7 in the Lalabazar area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. The Sylhet-bound bus from Dhaka lost control and fell into a pond, according to ASI Mohammad Pabel, media officer of APBn-7.
Soon after the accident, members of APBn-7 rushed to the spot and, with the help of the fire service, rescued all the passengers without any major injuries, said ASI Pabel.
